Hello Fable

Hello Fable

I feel it's only fitting that I start this journal post, the story of a book store re-birthed, with a quote from author Paul Coelho...

If you're brave enough to say goodbye, life will reward you with a new hello.”

Today I would like to introduce you to the charming store of Fable situated in the heart of Murwillumbah town in New South Wales' Northern Rivers. Owner and book curator Vishnu said goodbye to her store 'Knox and Co' when it was destroyed by the floods earlier this year. Stripped back to its bare bones, revealing original brick and steel beams, beauty was unearthed in more ways than one. Saying goodbye to one chapter unearthed a new story. It is here that we say hello to Fable.

Just like the town it resides in, the shop is unpretentious and beautifully itself. Sitting within a building more than 70 years old and a town encircled by staggering mountain ranges, the fit-out of Fable fuses the past and the present in a real and honest way. This is much like the owner herself, who came weekly to our factory to help sand and finish the furniture pieces we crafted for her store.

In many ways, stores like Fable are the heart of small towns. Filled with a unique book collection curated by Vi, a selection of locally made gifts and art, an area to sit, read, have a coffee and a chat, Fable is more than just a bookstore, it is all heart.

For us at Mr and Mrs White it has been a very meaningful project to be part of and even more meaningful for the friendship gained.

This Fit-out we crafted for Fable features a variety of standard and customised pieces of our Harbord Hutch unit, Tumby Table, Woodford Stools, Um Chair and Footstool and a new cafe table, all crafted in American Oak with a black wash finish.
