A few words from Mrs White
Despite the events of the last few years (floods and fires to name a few) we are still here, in the humbling position of being able to get up each day and continue to do what we love. Yes, much was destroyed, much has and is still being rebuilt, and many tears have been shed, but all was not lost. I'm not saying I would have chosen the events that have catapulted into our world but we certainly feel stronger and grateful for having endured it. I love this quote from Charles and Ray Eames that says
"I think the search for rewarding experience comes directly from the business of getting on with daily life".
There's a certain amount of reflection required to process where we are and how we came to be in the place we are now. But there's also something very rewarding about arising each day, folding up your sleeves and getting on with the business of this life, this day, this moment, no matter how you got there or where you think you should be instead. We have discovered that rewarding experiences do not come from our achievements or praise from others, but simply the act of creating, the ability and the privilege of putting our hands to work each day.
When our factory burnt down and we relocated to a temporary space in the heart of Murwillumbah earlier this year, I was in quiet anticipation for the task of creating something different - in a space we didn't know how long we were going to be occupying. Working with local builders, paint suppliers, metal workers and of course the Mr and Mrs White team, we created a space that speaks to the heart of the town and the heritage of the building. From custom Indian Red walls and floors, vintage moon lights and the slow crafting of our furniture to fill the space, we now have a space for you to come and experience our designs once again. Sitting within the factory where our furniture is made, the showroom is by no means 'fancy', as our daughter likes to say. A constant falling of saw dust fills the space with the continuous hum drum of machinery and tools in the background. You will see and smell first hand where our furniture is made and be met by one of our craftsman or me with a smile and/or a dusty handshake. So here's to beauty amongst the ashes and to the business of daily life!
We hope you come visit us soon.
